Ilka W. Fischer

Ilka W. Fischer was born in 1975 in Görlitz, Germany on the border with Poland. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, when Ilka was 14, she began absorbing Western culture in the form of film, music, and television. The first item that Ilka bought with her Begrüßungsgeld, (welcome money) from West Germany was a stereo, so she could listen to her favorite western bands, including Depeche Mode and U2. Ilka also took a strong interest in American culture, and at the age of 20 she traveled to the US to work as an au pair for an American family. During her stay in the US from 1995 to 1997, Ilka met her husband, whom she married in 2006. From 1998 through 2003, Ilka studied International Business and traveled much of the world, including Europe, Africa, India, Mexico, Russia, and Siberia, where she traveled on the Trans Siberian Railway. Ilka now lives in the United States with her American husband. Lustig is her first film.
